Rockwell was an American singer and songwriter signed to Motown in the mid-1980s.
He is the son of Motown founder Berry Gordy and was born Kennedy William Gordy after president John F. Kennedy and William “Smokey” Robinson. He secured his recording contract with Motown without his father knowing, and the label then gave him the name “Rockwell” (he apparently agreed because he thought he did “rock well”).
In 1984, he recorded his debut single “Somebody’s Watching Me” which became his best-known (and only hit) song. Follow-up singles and albums did not reach the same levels of success and he had released his final album for Motown by 1986. Following his final single release in 1991, Rockwell retired from the music industry for good.
